In this mini-sode, Will Jennings describes his feminist awakening as a man and talks about the colorful gendered language he finds online, including SJW itself. What does this mean? Does it reflect societal consensus or are there other forces at work?
Will Jennings explores old feminist texts, starting with Laura Mulvey’s Visual Pleasure And Narrative Cinema, and tries to apply their principles to the new cultural norms of the internet.
With help from the ensemble, Will flows through some of the vernacular created online from Reddit to Urban Dictionary to viral videos. There’s exploration of hiveminds, gender, and buzzwords.
